G. F. von Franckenau’s Satyra sexta (1674) on Male Menstruation and Female Testicles
نویسنده
چکیده
The essay focuses on the German physician Georg Franck von Franckenau (1643– 1704) and his Satyrae medicae from the 1670s and 1680s. It illuminates Franckenau’s ideas on sexual difference based on his discussion of sex-specific bodily functions such as menstruation and male and female genital structure. In Franckenau’s satires, a woman is not simply opposed to or likened to a man, but she is also compared to and contrasted with a child, an animal and even a salt statue. Franckenau offers an interesting view of those conventional biases that were attached to women’s bodies and their physical functions. By following the logic of curiosity and by bringing together seemingly different categories, Franckenau objected to generalisations about male and female bodies and challenged conventional sexual groupings by offering counterexamples.

An investigation on age, growth and biological characteristics of red mullet (Mullus barbatus ponticus, Essipov, 1927) in the Eastern Black Sea
This study was carried out during May 2010 – April 2011 in order to determine various biological properties of red mullet occurring in the Eastern Black Sea region. The average length and weight of 1435 specimens were determined as 13.13 cm and 23.14 g, respectively. Weight-length relationship was determined as W = 0.0088 L3.0338. The age distribution of this population ranged between I and VII...
متن کاملOlfactory receptor neurons from antennae of developing male Manduca sexta respond to components of the species-specific sex pheromone in vitro.
Male-specific olfactory receptor neurons, dissociated from developing antennae of the moth Manduca sexta and grown in long-term primary cell culture, can respond to at least one component of the female moth's sex-pheromone blend with the opening of a nonspecific cation channel. This response does not require the coapplication of pheromone-binding protein.

The aim of this study was to record growth parameters, mortality and sex ratio of Stellate Sturgeon (Acipenser stellatus) from the south basin of the Caspian Sea. 894 specimens were caught by fixed gill net and beach seine during April 2010 to March 2014. Male to female sex ratio was obtained 1:1.05 that was not differed significantly (p>0.05). The minimum and maximum length of the fish specime...

Age, growth and reproduction were investigated for Chondrostoma regium, collected monthly (November 2007- August 2008) from the Dimeh Spring region, Zayandeh Roud River, Iran. The maximum age of collected female and male fish were estimated based on scale increments as five and four years respectively. Von Bertalanffy growth equations were calculated as L_t=246[1-e^(-0.206(t-0.034))], W_t=163.2...
